As part of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management (APhA-APPM), in January 2000 the Addiction Practitioner Interest Group (PInG) was formed. It was developed to provide a membership “home” to those pharmacists interested in the treatment of patients and/or colleagues who suffer from the disease of chemical dependency. The mission of the interest group is to provide mechanisms for pharmacists to share information and ideas and update their skills and knowledge about addiction-related programs and treatments.

At the APhA annual meeting in San Diego, March 2008 you may know, Pierre DelPrato Pharm.D, volunteered to be the Coordinator of the Addiction PInG.

There are many projects that are currently being worked on, the 3 biggest being:

1)      Ron Williams Memorial Fund- building the fund and setting criteria for the

scholarship recipients

2)      Initiating and maintaining communications to all PInG members

3)      Improving our content on the APhA website

We will continue to seek funding for the Ron Williams Memorial Fund. We are aware that many PInG
members, as well as friends of Ron, would like to donate to this worthy fund, which will allow
pharmacy students to attend the University of Utah School on a scholarship.

We will attempt to make the process of donation a quick and simple one. If you are unfamiliar
with this fund, or would like to make a donation, please do so now by clicking on the link below:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people who have donated to date,
and to encourage all of those who wish to donate to please do so at your earliest convenience.
We will include a list of all donating members on a future communication.

If you need to contact us for any reason, email would be the best way to do so.
