Charles “Charlie” Broussard, R.Ph., M.Ed., FAPhA was a staff pharmacist at Mercy Hospital, Fairfield, Ohio, from August 1987 until retiring in August 2018.He holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee, College of Pharmacy in Memphis, and a Masters of Education in Agency and Community Counseling from Xavier University in Cincinnati with major studies in Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency Counseling from Seattle University.
He has been involved in the field of chemical dependency as an educator, counselor and consultant for over 30 years. From 1995 - 2002 he served as Secretary to Ohio's Pharmacist Rehabilitation Organization. In 2000, he was welcomed as the eighth honorary member of the International Pharmacists Anonymous Organization, because of his work on the national level for pharmacists in recovery from substance abuse. In June of 2003 he was appointed by the American Pharmacists Association in Washington, DC to serve on the Advisory Council and Summer School Faculty of the University of Utah – School on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependencies in Salt Lake City, a position he still holds. In 2005 he was the recipient of the Beal Award of the Ohio Pharmacists Association. An Award presented annually to honor a Pharmacist who has made continued contributions to the advancement of the pharmacy profession within the state of Ohio. In 2008 he was the recipient of the American Pharmacists Association, Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management (APhA-APPM) Merit Award. This award, recognizes individual pharmacy practitioners for significant contributions to pharmacy practice. In 2009 he was the recipient of the Linwood F. Tice Friend of the APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists Award. This award recognizes an individual whose long term services and contributions have supported the APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) and its members. In 2011 he was the recipient of the University of Utah – School on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependencies in Salt Lake City, Swinyard Award which recognizes outstanding service to the field of substance abuse education, treatment and prevention. In 2012 he was named a Fellow by the American Pharmacists Association. In 2013 he was the recipient of the APhA-APPM, Distinguished Achievement Award in Service which recognizes an individual who has made significant and sustained contributions in the area of service to their community, their state, or the national level. In 2017, he was the recipient of the Cardinal Health Generation Rx Champions Award for excellence in community-based prescription drug abuse prevention from the Ohio Pharmacists Association (OPA). The award annually honors a pharmacist who has demonstrated outstanding commitment within the pharmacy community to raise awareness of this serious health problem. It is also intended to encourage educational prevention efforts aimed at patients, youth, and other members of the community. In 2018, he received the national Generation Rx - Award of Excellence from the American Pharmacists Association.
Charlie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, now lives in Maineville (Cincinnati), Ohio
