Pharmacy Program: Pharmacist part of the Texas PRN is under the auspices of and is housed at the Texas Pharmacy
Association. It is a 501 [c] (6) (Tax Exempt) organization. Texas PRN has a 20 member, non-paid, advisory committee
composed of pharmacist and dental professionals, concerned with the topics of recovery in their professional field.
There is a Chair and Vice-Chair. We have 3 full time paid positions (Director and 2 Case Managers). There is also a
Grievance Committee for each profession, which is a subset of the advisory committee. The Committee hears
concerns voiced by participants and concerns about participants. Pharmacist Peer Assistance was created by
statutory changes in 1985 and includes pharmacists and pharmacy students. PRN currently operates under a
written contract with the State Board. Texas PRN carries general liability insurance and utilizes credentialed
Social Work professionals with experience in the field of substance abuse. The typical recovery support agreement
(contract) is for 5 years.
Texas PRN receives the majority of its funding to provide their contracted services, from license renewal fees
(Pharmacist and Dentist). The remainder of PRN's budget needs are met through the fees charged to participants.
Currently the monitoring fee is $600/year. In addition to the Board grant and client fees, PRN charges for
workshops, and occasionally receives donations, and sponsorships from individuals as well as pharmaceutical
companies and TPA funding.
Active clients for both programs include: Pharmacists, Student Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians,
Veterinarians, Optometrist, Dentists, Dental Students, Hygienists, Hygienist Students, & Dental Assistants
