Historical Information regarding the cancelation of the University of Utah School on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependencies
On June 17,2014 it was announced by the School Director, Stephen Sheppard PhD, that the School would not continue after 63 years.
Here is part of an e-mail sent to the Section Leaders the week before the announcement was made.

Hello all,
I am sure many of you have heard that we have been having substantial struggles with the operations of the June School. Specifically, we have been required to change our location or schedule for the School due to the University needing our space for other functions during the week we meet. We have had lots of input about possible solutions and have very carefully looked into them. At this point, changing the schedule or location presents barriers for many attendees and our information is that we could expect approximately a 1/3 decrease in attendance. This would impact tuition and create a scenario where we could not pay our bills if we were to operate the School as we have in the past. I’m not sure what kind of catastrophe this would cause, but I am sure it would be very bad.
So, it is with great sadness that I inform you that the June School as we have known it will no longer be operating after next week.
I am deeply saddened by this situation, but it is my intention to have a great time next week. Let’s have the best time we can.
